Here is the absolutely original business card of that famous Jewish-American attorney, philanthropist and founder of noted college. Apprenticed / indentured for two years in 1837 (at age 16) to a watchmaker he continued circa 1839 to 1848 at that work and in the jewelry business in Phila. This 2 ½ x 3 ½ business card will date to those years. Bold multi-style printing announcing: “MOSES A. DROPSIE, CLOCK AND WATCH MAKER, AND MANUFACTURER OF JEWELLERY [sic] AND SILVER WARE… 57 NORTH THIRD STREET [PHILA]. HAS CONSTANTLY FOR SALE WATCHES, GOLD PLATED AND GILT JEWELLERY, SILVER AND PLATED WARE, WATCH MAKERS’ TOOLS AND WATCH MATERIALS…” (etc.); Phila. printer signature lower corner. Normal aging; light wear, but exc. A unique authentic relic of a rags-to-riches career. Accompanied by three fine bio sketches from both “Dictionary of American Biography” and Encyclopedia’s of Jewish Biography
