Single sheet; large 8 x 12 ½. Intended to be sent to members of the congregation; datelined: “Philadelphia, Adair ____ 5604, March—1844” (date to be later entered in pen): “A stated meeting of [lengthy Hebrew phrase] will be held on Sunday 4’th of Nissan, the 24’th March at 10:00 a.m. at the Vestry Room of the Portuguese Congregation in Cherry Street…by order of the president.” Numerous short paragraphs or one line entries follow regarding various changes to be made in the “AMENDMENTS TO BY-LAWS” as well as two “AMENDMENTS TO CONSTITUTION.” Lower section with line entries under heading “SPECIAL AMENDMENTS PROPOSED BY MR. LEESER” regarding “who shall take the duties of the office in rotation and the person who has been longest in office to be senior [etc.]” and other technicalities. Requests that those attending meeting “please compare this notice with the printed constitution in your possession and bring it with you to the meeting so that you may vote understanding every amendment proposed…endeavour not to be absent…” About exc. Minor nick on edge and short partial tear on centerfold not affecting any wording. This was intended to be brought to the meeting by members; the reverse is full of neat penned, columnar entries with names of many members, having numbers and dates entered next to names.
