JESSE JOSEPH (1817-1904) scion of leading family of Jewish merchants and important chain of trading post throughout Canada writes Isaac Leeser from Montreal, March 19, 1846. As agent for the OCCIDENT, he discusses subscriptions, methods of shipping, intentions of some subscribers to discontinue, etc. Also seeks to learn dates Leeser will be at home as he intends to visit Phila.: “…I hope my desertion of the Bachelor Fraternity will not cause you any sorrow, perhaps extreme surprise. Will you oblige me by not mentioning this for the present ? …One of the misses Solomons was married Tuesday to an English gentleman…” says he hopes, and assumes Leeser will be available to meet him during visit as it will be “…the week succeeding the observation of Passover.” Two full pages with signature.
