Neatly penned letter (1 ½ pages) from “A. DESSAU” in “Macaw, Oct. 28, 1856” to Isaac Leeser: “We have here in Macaw improved our Burial ground in building around it a brick wall and setting iron doors. We have formed ourself into a Society for that object, also for charitable purposes. I would like to dedicate the burial ground with suitable prayers…and request that you give me a synopsis of the proceedings with the appropriate prayers for this occasion. …Also send a count of my indebtedness for the “Occident”…my son Naphtaly will hand you this letter. He lately returned from California…” Bold signature.
