Lot of three all different neatly penned single sheet letters (varying sizes; each blank on reverse) sent to Isaac Leeser as editor as the famed Jewish periodical “the Occident” by various congregations asking him to insert news of their activities in future issues of his paper. (1) From Isaac Goldsmith as Secretary from “Synagogue Chamber / South 5’th Street. Phila., Sept. 8, 5622 [1862]”…“I am instructed by Congr. B’nai Israel to send…copy of resolutions adopted…and request you will insert same in the Occident… you will greatly oblige [us].” (2) From the Secretary (fancy signature) at “Trustee Room / Congregation B’nai Israel / Phila. May 7, 1857.” “Authorized by Board of Trustees…to request you insert resolutions in next Occident…” etc. (3) From A. Solomon, Phila. May 10, 1858. He sends “…card of invitation to the dedication of the new synagogue at Mobile [it] was sent to me to hand to you… [Please] send my “Occident” to my office [with address]…I must be in arrears for the journal…let me know how much it is…” All are exc.; normal aging. No enclosures are included with the letters. The lot.
