MOSES AARON DROPSIE (1821-1905), attorney of international repute. This unusual and rare printed broadside (9 x 11) dated Phila. Feb., 1862 entirely in French language was intended to advertise his legal services as a multilingual, international lawyer with vast American connections to French speaking Europeans and Canadians. It opens discussing how the “rapport” between the U.S. and Europe is constantly changing and increasing in matters of COMMERCE AND EMIGRATION, describing how his legal services may be rendered to parties in need; and that he is capable of conducting correspondence in English, French, German and Dutch languages. Lower third of broadside lists people who will attest to his services and to whom interested parties may inquire as to his reputation. Included among those names (along with their titles and status) are Simon Cameron, former Secretary of War and currently U.S. minister to Russia; other important state governors and high ranking National officials; George M. Dallas former Vice President of U.S. and current minister to England and many other American consuls and officials then stationed in Europe; also numerous American names of important American National Business Associations and Corporations. Condition bit fragile with edges of the blank margins (side & top) tattered; entire imprint intact, undamaged. Pages 2, 3 and 4 blank. A major “shaker and mover” in civic and Judaica affairs, Dropsie was also president of the Phila. branch of “Alliance Israelite Universelle;” a pioneer in the establishment of street railways; a strong supporter of the anti-slavery movement and in 1856 one of the organizers of the Republican Party in Penna. (Unrecorded in Singerman)…
