Unusual two page very neatly penned letter datelined “Penna Hospital for the Insane / Phila. Sept. 4, 1865” by S. Prestin Jones to Isaac Leeser. Acknowledges Leeser’s letter and “…I do not perceive any change in Mr. Cozen’s mind since under my care. He still thinks he is under constant espionage of Government spies; that he is utterly ruined and his family is suffering from want. I do not like to venture to give an opinion as to his recovery. Visits from near relatives will…be of no injury to him.” Also mentions that when Cozen’s was admitted all visitors were then required to bring a note for authorization “…the object was to prevent anyone seeing him who should call merely from curiosity.” Exc. with a bit of research might uncover an interesting story
