Hurriedly penned single page letter (blank reverse) to Isaac Leeser from M. A. Mitchell (then president), Philadelphia August 24, 1866: “the United Hebrew Beneficient Society have no funds in the hands of the treasurer and I am obliged to refuse applications for relief. Please pardon me if I request you to refrain from giving any recommendation for charity for those which may apply and enlist your sympathies.” Lightest aging, exc. (it was about that date that the Society shut down.)
