Jan. 24, 1872 dated, 16 page pamphlet (6 x 9) settling the estates of Jacob and Hannah Levy Florence, prominent members of the New Orleans Jewish community (quite a bit about him and the family may be found in “The Early Jews of New Orleans” B. W. Korn, 1969). It was with Jacob Florence that the famous Judah Benjamin first made his home when he arrived in New Orleans in 1828 after leaving Yale College. Pamphlet itemizes and describes various parcels of land and real estate in New Orleans and environs divided up among seven various Florence heirs (all bearing that same last surname) coming from diverse cities and countries, including Phila., N.Y. City, Savannah, Georgia, Bristol England and Montreal Canada. It can be seen, too, that some of the Florence’s had married into other well known American Jewish families along the way. Last page includes an original penned notarized statement by the very same Notary whose printed name appears on page 1 as witness to the entire affair and is dated just five days later, 29 January, 1872 with official notary seal impressed. Light aging; exc. (Unrecorded in Singerman.)………
