4 ½ x 6 ½ depicting the handsome, elderly gentleman three quarter seated view; on its original studio paperboard mount (8 x 12 and including its original outer paper folder) with what appears to be the small imprint of photographer “Elias & Goldensky / Philadelphia.” Photograph with classic brownish sepia toning, is exc. +. Accompanied by a second candid type photo (3 ½ x 4 ½) of Sulzberger (evidently aboard ship) standing at a rail holding his hat tight to prevent being blown away; wearing overcoat. Fading; sepia toning, but clear. Original, slightly larger, heavy paperboard mount. A distinguished leader of the Jewish community and important in national Jewish affairs. A superb, lengthy bio sketch of him appears in “The Jews of Philadelphia” (Morais 1894) and accompanies these photos.
