This rare (unrecorded, unlisted) 4 page broadsheet (8 x 10) published by Congr. Mickveh Israel, although undated its time of printing is easily placed in the latter months of 1894 and decidedly prior to the board meeting of February 6, 1895 when these exact “Proposed Amendments” were adopted ! Bold headlines “PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS” proposes that “…the officers of the congregation [named by title] shall amend article 1 …by adding: The congregation shall also elect at its first meeting after the adoption of this amendment nine Trustees of the College to be established…who shall constitute a Board of Trustees of the Gratz College” followed by other amendments. For “Article 2…An Election of Officers” it names officers of the board and synagogue and methods for their election “…at the first meeting of the Trustees of the Gratz College…shall divide themselves into three classes [with terms of office for each]” and more on that “election” subject. Latter half itemizes 15 changes for the “BY-LAWS” for the “Board of Trustees of the Gratz College,” Including designation that the president of the board of the synagogue “…shall have the general superintendence of the College and of all Professors, Teachers and salaried officers and employees…” and more about the board’s supervision of college functions. Page 4 blank. Light aging. Exc. (Unrecorded in Singerman.) Note: in preface to 1897 printed work “Publications of the Gratz College” the material discussed in this document is mentioned in detail describing how these amendments were adopted Feb. 6, 1895, thus dating the document’s imprint as to Feb., 1895 date. (Accompanied by photostats of same.) The College was not formerly organized until later in 1895 and regular instruction not commenced until 1897
