Three page typed letter (each blank on reverse and each on printed letterhead of the J.P.S. / Phila)…sent from N.Y. Feb. 19, 1906 to Judge Mayer Sulzberger in Phila.: “Dr. Schechter asks me to say that he will not be able to attend a meeting of the Pub. Committee in March…[suggested an alternate date] but on realizing it was Purim he withdrew suggestion…In preparing Ms. Frank’s manuscript for the printer…not yet ready because it requires extensive changes in punctuation in orthography from English…translation is not unexceptional. I do not propose to touch it on the literary side [with more on problems of the manuscript and translation from Yiddish and offering examples in which Hebrew words were added by pen]…these were accidental discoveries…when I compared story with the original, my opinion was confirmed. The translator needs to be followed up [and offers her suggestions].” Exc. +
