Dec. 18, 1826, Official Documents Relating to the Florida Seminoles, 19th Congress, 2d Session, Printed by Gales & Seaton, Washington, D.C., Fine. Document No. 17, House of Representatives, War Dept., disbound pamphlet, 39 pages, 5.5" x 8.5." "Letter from the Secretary of War Transmitting The Information required by a resolution of the House of Representatives, of the 16th of May last, in relation to the Florida Indians." This document was read and referred to the Committee on Indian Affairs. The papers state that "in March past, a party of those Indians fell in with an innocent and unoffending man in this country, shot and scalped him, for which outrage your memorialists verily believe no redress has been made, if demanded by the Indian Agent, and are daily committing depredations on the stock of cattle and hogs, and robbing the plantations...." Includes many correspondences between William P. Duval, the governor of Florida, and Major Benjamin Chaires, Col. Thomas L. M'Kenney (General Superintendent of Indian Affairs), and others. Besides some general foxing throughout, some holes from docketing, the document is in fine condition, and quite legible. Eberstadt 136:238; G-H page 334.
