1829 Presentation Copy of "ABSTRACT OF INFANTRY TACTICS" by the Department of War, printed in 1829 and signed by J. B. Rieand, Quartermaster General U.S. Army. 138 pages,7.5" x 4.5", First edition, Fine. Bound in embossed leather, worn covers, some separation at the hinges, but internally sound. This fabulous volume contains "Abstract of Infantry Tactics including Exercises and Maneuvers of Light-Infantry and Riflemen for the Use of the Militia of The Unite States." Volume has thirty engraved plates, some showing different drills to be conducted by drilling soldiers along with field maneuvers. This book was presented to George Vickers by J.B. Rieand who inscribed on the title page "Geo. Vickers from J.B. Rieand." J.B. Rieand was Quartermaster General of the United States Army form 1821 to 1834. George Vickers was the inventor of the Vickers Ordnance Maxim Gun.
