Congress Records For The Court of Inquiry- Operations in Florida, 1838, Choice Extremely Fine. This reprinted account of the 25th Congress, 2nd Session of the House of Representatives, War Department, concerns the "Operations in Florida". This disbound section has 206 pages and is "Doc. No. 78" in a series. The "Letter from The Secretary of War Transmitting Copies of the Proceedings of a Court of Inquiry, convened at Fredericktown, in relation to the Operations against the Seminole and Creek Indians." A letter written by J.R. Poinsett stated in part "... It is true that the Seminoles dwell in an inhospitable and deadly climate, and occupy inaccessible swamps and morasses, which are not susceptible of cultivation or improvement by the whites. Still, their further continuance there was found to be incompatible with the peace and security of the citizens of the Unites States who inhabit Florida... it became... the duty of the Government to carry out the same policy with regards to the Seminoles... remove them to the abundant and fertile country beyond the river..." The 206 pages are personal accounts of the Indian problems from various Generals, along with a "Registry of Negro Prisoners Captured by General Jesup" which sparks much interest. Age-toned with minor dampstaining; a very concise collection of Indian relations with the Florida territory.
