C. A. Donnell Company of Portland, Maine, brass founder and manufacturer of ship fastenings and trimmings. Massive collection, 1850s-80s, of approximately 3,500 invoices, statements and correspondence between the Donnell Co. and their numerous suppliers (mainly Boston, but other locales also represented.) Numerous billheads (some fancy) reflecting a wide assortment of raw materials and manufactured products: Wind vanes; steering apparatus; beer pumps; knobs and locks; tools; engines; plumbing; metals and much more. Correspondents include ship chandlers; metal smiths; foundries; and machinery brokers. Among the companies: Revere Copper; American Tool & Machine Co.; Phoenix Manufacturing Co. (Taunton); Boston Wire Works; Wood, Pollard & Co. (wholesale liquor dealer); Henry R. Stone Brass Founder; and Manhattan Rubber Co. There is a small number of items from the lead manufacturing company of anti-slavery leader George Luther Stearns (1809-1867). The collection is comprised of approximately 750 pieces of correspondence (appx. 1866-early 1880s); 2500 bills and statements, primarily billheads, (1850s-early 1880s); and 250 misc. pieces (checks, receipts, etc.) VG-EX.
