ALS Washington City, May 26, 1859, to "John carol Brent, Secretary W.N.M. society", reporting the ongoing progress of the project, in part:" On behalf of myself and associate commissioners of the Fourth Ward…we most cheerfully accede to its request…to have a box placed at our polls, to receive, in furtherance of its objects, the voluntary contributions of voters …We owe so much { to Washington} as the principal instrument in the hands of Providence in establishing our liberties …one of the master minds among the framers of the incomparable system of government under which it is our happy privilege to live. ' A few scattered very tiny stains, which effect none of the readability of the text, Therefore good to very good.
