A scarce, large and quite presentable master manifest for the outward bound whaling ship "Leonidas". Dated May of 1864, the manifest bears a cancelled $1.00 "Lease" revenue stamp, and lists its pertinent cargo as:"Casks, Provisions, & ship's stores for a whaling voyage. The Leonidas was sailing during the Civil War, and it is certain that her cargo was more carefully examined than usual, as the Northern authorities were determined to allow no goods to enter the South through the blockade. In addition to the value of the revenue stamps used on such an unusual document, the manifest is also desirable for its affiliation to the whaling industry. Very good.
