An unusual grouping of 16 whaling ship manifests, all for outbound whaling vessels in 1864, and all carrying the materials necessary for a whaling voyage. These manifests are of the same sort as those displayed as individual lots, with the exception that two of the manifests have had their revenue stamps removed, leaving 14 of the manifests with revenue stamps. There is a considerable amount of variety within the archive, with a large number of different vessels represented, as well as a variety of the number and type of revenue stamps used on each manifest. All are manifests for outbound voyages, with ships destined for both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The manifests, along with all of the similar whaling documents offered in this sale were all obtained from one estate, and with the exception of a small group of documents placed with one other establishment, the consignor has placed all of his whaling material in this catalog and knows of no similar material to be found anywhere. Overall the condition of these manifests is very good or better.
