COOLIDGE, Calvin (1872-1933) Thirtieth President of the United States who succeeded to the presidency upon the death of Harding., placed civil aviation under the direction of the commerce department and through the Revenue acts of 1924 and 1926, freed up funds for private investment, that contributed to the dizzying round of speculation later in the decade. Typed Letter Signed, “Calvin Coolidge” 1p. quarto, on Massachusetts Executive Department letterhead, December 10, 1920, addressed to Charles Sumner Bird and wife, and reads “I have hada summons from Senator Harding to come to Marion on December 15th, and it will therefore be impossible for Mrs. Coolidge and me to come to Walpole...This is a real disappointment to us and we regret exceedingly that we cannot be with you...” VG.
