COOLIDGE, Calvin (1872-1933) Thirtieth President of the United States who succeeded to the presidency upon the death of Harding., whose administration passed the Air COmmerce Act, the Kellogg-Briand Pact and vetoed two Farm Relief bills stating that “Government price fixing, once started, has alike no justice and no end. It is an economic folly from which this country has every right to be spared.” Typed Letter Signed, “Calvin Coolidge” in pencil, 1p. octavo, on Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor stationary, December 26, 1918, with cover addressed to Charles Rile of Northampton, Massachusetts, and reads “On Wednesday January 1, I wish you would go to my house and get my two boys and take them to Boston on the afternoon train over the Central Massachusetts Road. I think they can both go for half fare. Keep track of their fare and I will pay it to you. As you are starting at that time, I suppose you are entitled to the usual expenses allowed by the Commonwealth to members of the Staff. The Adjutant General will tell you about that. Take the boys to the Adams House...” VG.
