HOOVER, Herbert Clark (1874-1964) Thirty-first President, under his administration prohibition was repealed, the stock market crashed, the Great Depression started and the 20th Amendment was added to the Constitution. Typed Letter Signed, “Herbert Hoover” 1p. quarto, on his stationary, April 6, 1936, addressed to Matthew Woll of New York and reads “I have the material which you sent to me and I am deeply obliged to you for it. I thought I could not properly deal with the subject in the recent speech and that I should set aside some occassion to handle it competently. I am greatly indebted to you for the most helpful suggestions...” VG.
