Autograph Letter Signed, “J.C. Brown” 1p. quarto, November 28, 1851, San Francisco, and reads in part: “...I take this opportunity to write to you for it may be the only one that I ever shall have for I have engaged to go on the Republic to Panama and it is though to be very sickly there at present. The steam boat North America got in this morning from there and all were sick or nearly all as I am told...this will go on Thursday in the Goldengate which will arrive at the same time or there abouts...I have sent a small draft to you on Boston but have not got any letters from any of you...I am well at present and hoope to have a prosperous journey, my intention in coming home is to start a drove of cattle over the plains in the spring...” Fine.
