G, 2nd Ohio Vols., Anderson Station, [Tenn.], Aug. 31, 63, in part: "…I told him what I thought of Doc…I just gave him my mind…I hate and despise a coward and a man that will stay at home and belong to as mean…set as the Butternuts…a man that stays at home and will not go…to fight is the owes and meanest traitor…he does not deserve to any other name than a traitor…that is the kind of person Doc Putney is and I do not care who knows it…I never did like him since the war commenced and I am very glad to get rid of them…I do not lnow how other armys…get furloughs and our army cannot…the Army of the Cumberland deserves furloughs for we have earned them…I do not think the U. S. will hold me very long for Frank and I are going to Australia when this war is over. Why did Charley go to [New] Orleans. It would have don him good to see what the soldiers had to do to take the city of the Mississippi. All of our army has the Tennessee River and we are left back here guarding here RR which I am glad…for our Regt has done enough marching…but…8 of our boys are sick with the ague…John Leas is discharged and tarted home this morning. He was discharged on account of him arm for the least little twist would put t out of place…Thomas J. Bond." The original transmittal cover is included. Light soiling, else VG
