of a uniformed Raphall, chest-up, in an oval, photographer identified on both front and back as Washburn in New Orleans, 1864. The signature is on the back mount, “Yours A.M. Raphall 11th foot”. On July 2, 1863, Lt. Alfred M. Raphall was severely wounded in the fighting near Devil’s Den at Gettysburg; surgeons afterward amputated his right arm.
