War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by a certain "A. V. Hover", U. S. Signal Corps, Morris Island, S. C., Apr . 2, 1865, to his fellow signal corpsman Daniel D. Barrows, reading, in part: "…I have been in the service. We are stationed in the water battery on Wagner. The quarters are raised so that we get a good sea breeze…Burnell…and Johny Ryan are the only signal men for duty on that station. Calvin has to do all the work of the station. The officers are off hoaring it all the time…Rhodes is running the government press in the city and is at a board house and has a horse… A. V. Hover, Signal Corps…". VG
