Broadside, 21” x 29” (sight, in frame), with headline “1776 aextry 1862” is tongue-in-cheeck satire of the recruiting posters of the Civil War. Variable type fonts and sizes add to the intrigue. Here are a few of the sarcastic lines, “Skedaddle. 1862. The Falstaff Fencibles, Alias ‘The Shirt Stealing Brigade” ... “1860, Eplumb Bursters, 1861 Invincible in Peace, Invisible in War” ... “The concussion of the bursting of a whiskey barrel will announce to the startled people that the day has broke.” ... dated Mohawk, July 1, 1862. Framed in two sided glass, very weak at verticle fold with show through and some text loss. Unique item!
