War-date Union civilian Autograph Letter Signed, “Sarah Hatch,” 3p. octavo, on patriotic lettersheet, Franklin Mills, Ohio, August 31, 1862, with cover addressed to Helen Loveland in Wisconsin, and reads in part: “...We are all well as usual. We are making cheese got our haying and harvesting done. Cheese is worth 6 cents butter 12 1/2 cents. ...There has been great excitement about the war but I believe that they have got the number of men from the town without drafting. I was afraid that they would have to draft. Franklin has sent a good many men into the army. They though last week that they would be obliged to draft in Ravenna and Freedom. Harriet said that Giles was sick the most of the time he was so afraid that he would have to go to the war...” VG.
