Whitworth Wants to Drive The Confederates This 5 page letter is datelined Camp Near Fairfax, March 24 (1863). Writing to his brother he says in part, “We left Camp Gray last Tuesday afternoon, marched 5 miles and encamped near Baily’s Cross Roads ...There are 20 men detailed out of our Company yesterday to escort a forage train to our boys the other side of Fairfax. As they were going through the woods they saw 4 Rebels ... They must be a scarcity of men in Michigan yet, enough to clean the South twice over, if they only go the right way to work. I hope that they will make it a business to drive them this summer so that they will be glad to cry for peace on any terms.
