This 8 page letter is datelined Camp Gray, Mar 6/63. Writing to his brother, he states in part “Our regiment returned last Tuesday evening weary and tired ... the horses was tired out. Some they had to leave to die. ... Opposite Fredericksburg ... the boys could see the rebels, pickets, and the strong forts back of the city, which enabled them to slaughter our men last December. they passed the old Bull Run ... said it was a hard looking sight, men’s bones lying on the ground and some with their arms sticking out of the ground. ... I was informed that Colonel Windsor was under arrest ... they have suspicions that he is to work for the South ... They think he is a traitor ...”
