U.S.S. Atlanta sailor's hat, c. 1890, navy blue wool with eroded gold thread but clearly from the ATLANTA, one moth nip to body, lining generally very good. The second USS Atlanta was a protected cruiser and one of the first steel warships of the "New Navy" of the 1880s. She was engaged in a few actions protecting American interests in South America.
