GAVIN, James (1907-1990) was a senior United States Army officer, with the rank of lieutenant general, who was the third Commanding General (CG) of the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II. During the war, he was often referred to as "The Jumping General" because of his practice of taking part in combat jumps with the paratroopers under his command. Signed Card “Jim Gavin,” affixed to an official report, “Belgium, The Story of the Bulge, The 82d Airborne Division,” with Gavin’s preface; 32pp., plus 4 large 24” x 20” maps. the text covers a day-by-day recap of the attack of the 82nd. The maps support the text. Pretty nice item with the post war signature of the commander.
