CLAY, Henry (1777-1852) was a 19th-century American planter, statesman and orator who represented Kentucky in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, where he served as Speaker. He also served as Secretary of State from 1825 to 1829. Free Frank “Free H. Clay” with CDS Lexington KY, Sept 27. And addressed in Clay’s hand, “Epes Sargent Esq, City of New York.” Sargent was editor of several newspapers in new York City.
