A good war-date Union soldier's enlistment document, 1p. 8vo., issued by recruiting Sergeant John W. Holsapple, 14th New York State Volunteers, Hudson, New York, Sept. 13, 1861, reading, in part: "This is to certify that I enlisted Robert A. Hubbel on the 13th day of September 1861 at the city of Hudson in the state of New York to serve in the 14th Regiment New York Volunteers for the term of two years, said term commencing on the 17th day of May 1861…pay rations and clothing to commence from the date of enlistment said term to expire on the 17th day of May 1863 or at any previous date when the numbers now composing the said regiment may be discharged or mustered out of the United States service…J. W. Holsapple, 14th Regiment N. Y. S. Vols., Recruiting Sergeant." VG
