A great war-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Robert A. Hubbel, Co. K, 14th New York State Vols., Miner's Hill, [Va.], Nov. 18, 1861, reading, in part: "…Saturday a arty of 40 from the 30th N. Y. Reg. where on foraging tour…beyond the picket line…when loading their wagons…[they] were surrounded and with 4 wagons and 16 horse…were taken prisoners…the Reg. went out but did not overtake hem…we have a grand review of 3 divisions…it will be one of the grandest of the kind ever took place as upwards of 40,000 men are expected to be present. They have been…clearing up a parade ground for the purpose…after this parade…our division will be called upon to go on that expedition..I myself am not very anxious to go as we would have more…labor to perform such s building forts and putting up earthworks…should we be repulsed I do not know what would be…to become of us…R. A. Hubbel." Light soiling, else VG
