Partly-printed war-date Union general's document signed, 1p. 25 1/2" x 8 1/2", D.[arius] A. COUCH, adding rank as brigadier general, "Headquarters, Couch's Brigade, Camp Brightwood," [Va.], January 27, 1862, a consolidated morning report setting forth the strength of forces under Couch's command, specifically those commands led by Col. Frank Wheaton, 2nd Rhode Island, Lt. Col. Charles Raymond 7th Mass. Vols., Col. Henry S. Briggs 10th Mass. Vols. and Col. Charles H. Innes 36th New York Vols. indicating those present on leave, sick etc. DARIUS NASH COUCH (1822-1897) graduated the USMA in 1846 became a major general in the Civil War leading a division at the battles of Second Bull Run, Antietam and Chancellorsville. He was transferred to the West after offering his resignation in disgust of General Hooker's performance during the Chancellorsville campaign. Minor soiling, else near fine.
