Pair of U.S Treasury Department broadsides, includes “GENERAL REGULATION” July 1, 1863, 1pp. quarto, issued by S.P Chase, Secretary of the Treasury, and states in part: “...No vessel, other than Steamers and Packets known to be engaged on regular lines, or in the employ of the Army or Navy will be allowed to leave port between the hours of sunset and sunrise, until further orders...” With ANS at bottom. Very good condition...plus; “CIRCULAR TO COLLECTORS IN REGARD TO ILLEGAL TRAFFIC CARRIED ON BY COASTING VESSELS.” 1pp. quarto, issued by S.P. Chase, Secretary of the Treasury, November 24, 1863, and reads in part: “...many vessels of the United States, enaged in the coasting trade...take on board tobacco and other articles...To put an end to this illegal traffic, you will, on the arrival of any vessel destined to your port...cause the cargo...to be unladen under the inspection of an officer of the customs...” Very good condition.
