War-date Union soldier’s Autograph Letter Signed by Charles M. Hodge, 6th Connecticut Infantry, 2pp. quarto, Ordnance Department, Hilton Head, South Carolina, February 8, 1863, and reads in part: “...There is three or four Iron Clads here. One is the larger steamer Ironsides, a very nice & strong vessel. Probably an attack will be made upon Charleston or Savannah. This post has received large reinforcements , command by General Foster from North Carolina...I am tied down by military rules. Work every minute like a damned Negro & then the officers not satisfied...What is slavery but this?...” Fine condition.
