Autograph letter Signed “A.H. Edwards” Assitant Adjutant General, 1pp. quarto, October 6, 1864, and reads “Corse has just signaled from Altoona. Had his right cheek & ear shot of but is able to whip hell out of rebels yet. Enemy made two assaults in works repulsed with heavy loss. Enemy turned off to west & south. Army Tennessee on our extreme left Cumberland next. Ohio on extreme right near Big Shanty no heavy fighting today. Genl Sherman looks pleased.’ Very good condtion.The Battle of Allatoona, also known as the Battle of Allatoona Pass, was fought October 5, 1864, in Bartow County, Georgia, as part of the Franklin-Nashville Campaign of the American Civil War. A Confederate division under Maj. Gen. Samuel G. French attacked a Union garrison under Brig. Gen. John M. Corse, but was unable to dislodge it from its fortified position protecting the railroad through Allatoona Pass.
