War-date Union prisoner of war Autograph Letter Signed by Levi M. Babcock, 35th New Jersey Infantry, 2pp. octavo, pencil. Cahawba Prison, Alabama, February 15, 864, and reads in part: “...I was captured a little over a week ago. I don’t want you to grieve after me...I think I will soon get exchanged and will get home but if not God is with me...I want to meet you in Heaven if not on earth...in this prison you must remember that God is with you...Jesse Miller, John Beam and Jonah Case is here...” Upper top left portion of the letter missing, presumably where Private Babcock placed a stamp. Levi M. Babock did not survive his imprisonment, he died at Andersonville on August 6, 1864.
