A great war-date Union home front letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by a certain "Charlie", Richmond, [Ind.], Aug. 1, 1862, to his friend Isaac Shoemaker, of San Francisco, Cal., reading, in part: "…everything produced on the farm are very low & most probable will so continue as long as this infernal rebellion does and from present appearances it is more remote than at the beginning. It will continue to be so unless a very different policy is [?] hang Lincoln, McClellan & some of the other do little scoundrels…with men of the right stamp it might soon be crushed. I am utterly disgusted with the whole party…Charlie." The original ten-cent George Washington stamped (Scott's No. 68) transmittal cover to San Francisco is included. Both near fine.
