The National Police Gazette, Aug. 9, 1884. Billed as “The Leading Illustrated Sporting Journal in America.” Cover depicts a woman “In the Grip of Fiends/How Fair Victims are Lured and Dragged into the Chinese Opium Dens of New York, to Dream Away Their Lives and Wreck Both Health and Honor in the Hands of the Barbarian Wretches.” More of the same scandalous and salacious news and engravings inside, but much more space given over to sports (baseball, boxing, rowing, etc, than with other newspaper of the same ilk). Removed from volume. Good condition and displayable.
