Music Sheet, “I Wish I Was In Dixie’s Land, Bryant’s Minstrels”, by Dan. D. Emmett, 1860, New York, 6pp. 10” x 13”, disbound, previous owners ink identification. First authorized edition, later issue. Very good: removed from a larger volume, evenly toned with a few spots of soiling. First authorized edition, later issue, of the anthem of the Old South. Dixie was first performed as part of a minstrel show in April 1859 in New York City. A year later it was performed by a different troupe in New Orleans, and quickly became popular. On April 9, 1860, the first of a few issues of a pirated edition was published there, initially barely resembling Emmet's work but getting more like it with each subsequent issue over the following ten days.
