War-date Confederate soldiers Autograph Letter Signed by C.P. Gaillard, 1pp. quarto, June 25, 1861, Sumter Court House, South Carolina, addressed to Governor Pickens, and reads in part: “...At the time of the departure of the Palmetto Guard (to which Company I belong), for Virginia, circumstances prevented my going with them, since then I have overcome those, and wrote Capt. C.B. Cuthbert to inquire if I could be allowed to join my company, in reply I received a letter...it is a requisite I should obtain your permission...Enclosed are copies of the Secretary’s letter & Capt. C’s order...” With the original copies. Fine condition.
