An interesting Union, partly-printed 1p. folio, entitled: "Garrison Equipage Expended in the public service at…in Battle of Chancellorsville & on the march" that is signed by Brevet Brigadier General JOHN WILLIAN (1835-1869) as commander of Co. C, 6th New Jersey Vols. Enumerated are a drum head, "one complete drum", knapsacks, haversacks and even "De Arbre Tents." The reason given, reads, in part: "Lost in action at Chancellorsville, Va., May 3, 1863, the men in whose possession they were, being wounded and in consequence of the Regt. changing its position under a heavy musketry fire was compelled to leave them on the field…". Other items lost were claimed to be: "worn out in service…[when the regiment] was ordered to move, before they could be forwarded, and for want of transportation were abandoned…".
