Group of five (5) war-date Union soldier Autograph Letters Signed by John F. Getty, 13th Pennsylvania Cavalry, taken POW at Jefferson, Virginia, October 12, 1863, and died as a prisoner in Richmond, Virginia, March 1864, they read in part: “...[2/22/1863] It is Washington’s birthday today and they have fired a salute of 24 guns from the fort....[4/13/1863] Our camp started out on a thre days scout. Was on last night on picket and must go on tomorrow morning gain...The Rebels left Port Royal....it is reported they are fighting in Charlestown...we went to the Shennadoah river and captured three rebels and one horse...[7/6/1863] we had a very hard fight at Winchester and had to retreat to Harper’s Ferry. From there we went Frederick City to cut off the rebs retreat back. We expect a fight here soon...I think we got the Rebs now surrounded...We made a hurried escape at Winchester. We had to cut our way through to Harpers Ferry...we didnt lose many men at the fight...[7/27/1863] We have left Harpers Ferry. The regiment is gone across the river towards Richmond and my horse is played out...Old Lee in Snickers Gap and licked him bad, drop him back and captured lots of them...[8/7/1863 incomplete] We had been out in the front but now we fell back three miles. This side of Catlin Station...good deal of bushwhackers...” All about very good condition or better.
