War-date Union soldier Autograph Letter Signed by Darius Beardsley,137th New York, WIA at Gettysburg, 3pp. quarto, Nashville, Tennessee, November 27, 1863, and reads in part: “...Hudson is dead. This event took place at noon today. He came to this hospital from the frontier of the Army of the Cumberland after he had fought in the Battle of Chickamauga some three weeks ago. In that engagement he was wounded in his left arm, where amputation was necessary which he bore with great fortitude, but it proved too much. He had excellent surgeons, kind nurses and the attention of myself and other friends but all proved to no avail to resist the shaft of death....Good condition.
