War-date Union soldier Autograph Letter Signed by William McCrea, Co. G, 141st New York Vols, 3pp. octavo, Arlington Heights, Virginia, March 25, 1863, and reads in part: “...The barracks were built by the 25th Maine Regt. They have been in them for about 6 months but left for the front yesterday...I suppose some fifteen thousand troops started from this vicinity yesterday on their way towards Hookers army.The building I occupy is a nice big log house with a large fireplace on one side, a good floor & plenty of room, which contrasted with a small tent with a little stove on one corner & a floor of mud...We have found that the rats had possession before we did & our cat has deserted, probably having reconitored the place before &ascertained the strength of the enemy she had to deal with...
