Good Union eight page letter with original cover, written by “A(ustin) Fenn who on 9/1/1862 mustered into "H" Co. VT 10th Infantry and mustered Out on 6/22/1865. Writing to his wfe, datelined camp near Winchester Virginia, November 24, 1864. In part, “The state of New York has furnished turkeys and chickens for the army to have a Thanksgiving ... Company H got three good size chickens for their dinner. They are neither singed, beheaded, gutted, or cooked, but I guess old Newman, our cook, will fix them so we can make a way with them somehow. ... (at Ceder Creek) the rebel did strip some of our dead that day .. Loren Pease had a hair breath escape in that battle... I had a ball through my cap that day, but it didn’t hurt me ...”
