Autograph Letter Signed, 2pp. octavo, Washington D.C., December 10, 1884, addressed to W.O. Stoddard, and reads in part: “...I am in receipt of your letter...in regard to certain papers relating to the Union League now in my possession...I have never made a critical or rather a careful examination of the same consequently I am unable to state whether there are any papers which would be of material use to you in the preparation of your proposed History of the U.S.A....” Fine condition. William Osborn Stoddard (1835-1925) was an American author, inventor, and assistant secretary to Abraham Lincoln during his first term.
